Do you qualify to study in America?

There are over 3000 Universities in the United States.  Some universities are of very high caliber and have competitive admissions, while others are poor academically and have low admissions standards.  Many Zambians may be able to secure a position at these schools but there are other factors to consider, mainly finances.

Attending university in America costs between $15,000 and $50,000 per year (k50 million and k175 million).  In 2007 there were 144 Zambian students who traveled to study in American universities.  Of those 144, 7 of them received scholarships that fully covered their tuition, although they still were required to pay for visa fees, and airfare.  127 received little or no scholarships.  Most Zambians who study in America pay this whole amount from their own or their family’s personal finances.  Those who are looking for scholarships must have exceptional marks and almost all distinctions on their grade 12 examinations, and score at least 1100 on their SAT test.  Without meeting these standards, the chances of receiving a scholarship are very slim.
