How To Apply
Nonimmigrant Visa Information
You will need access to the internet and a printer in order to complete the online application, print the confirmation sheet, and schedule an appointment for a visa interview. We regret that we cannot accept hand written applications.
STEP 1: Please click here to complete the DS-160 online visa application. Note: You should have your passport, previous visa information (if applicable), and any other documents relevant to your intended travel to the United States ready and available for your reference before you start the application process. Also, be sure to select "Zambia, Lusaka" as the location where you will be submitting your application.

Please read our answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the online DS-160 form.
STEP 2: Following completion of the DS-160 application, please schedule an appointment online. The Embassy cannot schedule an appointment for you. Enter the barcode that is listed on your application confirmation page. You will not be able to schedule an appointment without this barcode. Select the date and time of your interview and enter the requested information. Print the NIV appointment confirmation page. You will be required to present this page, along with your application confirmation page, at the U.S. Embassy on the day of your interview.
STEP 3: Attend your interview at the U.S. Embassy and pay the appropriate fee to the Embassy cashier in USD or Zambian Kwacha cash only. The fee for a business, tourist, exchange visitor, or student visa is currently $140. Bring your application confirmation page, your appointment confirmation page, passport, a 2 inch by 2 inch photograph, and all supporting documentation.
Requesting an Expedited Visa Interview
The U.S. Embassy is able to consider expediting visa appointments only for specific circumstances. These circumstances may include: death or serious illness of a family member in the United States, urgent medical treatment, students who will miss the start date indicated on their I-20 form, certain categories of emergency business travel, and other emergencies (for example, appearance in a U.S. court). To request an expedited appointment, first schedule an appointment online and then write to consularlusaka@state.gov detailing the reasons for your request. Do NOT call or walk-in to request an expedited visa interview. Send requests by email only. If your expedited visa request is approved, we will confirm your new interview appointment via email.
The U.S. Embassy does not guarantee expedited service, and an expedited appointment does not guarantee visa issuance.
Visa Fees
-
Effective April 13, 2012, the fees for most nonimmigrant visa applications and Border Crossing Cards have increased, while all immigrant visa processing fees have decreased.

Visa Waiver Program
-
The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of 36 participating countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business (visitor [B] visa purposes only) for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. VWP eligible travelers may apply for a visa, if they prefer to do so. Nationals of VWP countries must meet eligibility requirements to travel without a visa on VWP. VWP travelers are required to have a valid authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to travel, are screened at the port of entry into the United States, and are enrolled in the Department of Homeland Security’s US-VISIT program.
