Non-Immigrant Visas

General Information

Zambian citizens traveling to the United States must have a valid U.S. visa. There are two primary types of U.S. visas; immigrant and nonimmigrant. The Embassy's consular section processes both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas for travel to the United States. In general, immigrant visa are the appropriate visa for those intending to reside permanently in the United States, while a nonimmigrant visa will be issued for those who qualify to travel temporarily to the United States as a tourist, student, or temporary worker. The Nonimmigrant Visa and Immigrant Visa Sections are located at the corner of Independence Avenue and United Nations Avenue in Lusaka.

The United States welcomes foreign visitors. We are pleased that many people from around the world travel to the United States each year for tourism, study, business, and to visit relatives. Like most visitors to the United States, Zambians need a visa prior to departure. To obtain a visa, applicants must establish that they have a residence outside the United States that they do not intend to abandon. To determine whether the applicant meets this requirement, consular officers review applicants' ties (family, economic, social, cultural, etc) to their country of origin or permanent residence.
