The American Embassy offers advising services to those who intend on studying in accredited American universities. The advising service is free to all and offers advice beginning at the college search process until the time of departure for America. Education advising is conducted at the American Center located within the COMESA building just opposite the Kafue Roundabout in Lusaka. In Kitwe, education advising is offered at the American Corner, located in the Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation’s Dag Hammarskjold Memorial Library. The centers are nonpartisan and provide accurate, unbiased information about all accredited U.S. higher education institutions. The centers also provides information and registration bulletins for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT), the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), and the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).
Weekly informational sessions are conducted every Thursday at the American Center from 15:00 to 17:00 hours and cover the basics for applying to American Universities for a bachelors degree (1st degree). During these sessions, the U.S. system of higher education is explained, and information is presented on how to choose a university and apply for acceptance and financial aid. Only after attending a Thursday informational session, you can be allowed to meet with the Education Advisor on an individual basis. Those who have already received a bachelors degree and are now seeking a masters or doctorate degree should not attend a Thursday informational session, but may meet with the Education Advisor individually during advising hours.
