Election Violence - Solwezi

On October 29 in the city of Solwezi, Northwestern Province, members of rival political parties engaged in violent clashes. There is the potential for further incidents leading up to and immediately following the November 19 parliamentary by-election. Although Americans have not been targeted, there is the potential for citizens to be caught up in disturbances. Americans in Solwezi district should avoid large political gatherings.
Americans living or traveling in Zambia who are not already registered with the U.S. Embassy are encouraged to do so through the State Department's travel registration website, so that they can obtain updated information on travel and security within Zambia. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency.
