The President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief
The PEPFAR HIV/AIDS Prevention Small Grants Funds
The United States, through the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), is now accepting applications for the PEPFAR HIV/AIDS Prevention Small Grants Fund.
PURPOSE: The PEPFAR HIV/AIDS Prevention Small Grants Fund is designed to assist communities with innovative projects/programs designed to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in their areas. The communities design and implement prevention activities and establish success measures to demonstrate that they are meeting their intended targets in reducing the spread of HIV. The Prevention Small Grants are meant to ignite and reinforce community initiatives to prevent the spread of HIV sustainably.
These grants are one-time grants intended to help local organizations to initiate HIV prevention activities in their communities. Applicants should clearly demonstrate how their projects will be sustainable over the long term. There should be no expectation of continued funding under the PEPFAR HIV/AIDS Prevention Small Grants. Communities that succeed in reducing the spread of HIV significantly may apply for another grant for a separate but related project in recognition of their good work.
ELIGIBILITY: Community-based organizations (CBOs), faith-based organizations (FBOs), and learning institutions may apply. Applicants must provide evidence that the organization requesting funds is legally registered in Zambia.
PROJECT CRITERIA SUMMARY (read the application/guidelines for more guidance):
- Emerging groups will be considered.
- Established groups must have evidence of successful projects that have been carried out over two years. Consideration will be given to groups who submit applications with realistic and itemized budgets, specific measurable objectives, and clear proposals with timelines.
- Projects organizers must be knowledgeable about project implementation and should be able to successfully complete the project by September 2012. Applicants must clearly demonstrate that they will continue to support the community in the related area after the completion of the project(s).
- Projects should address prevention issues in the targeted community, and should be community-led. They must clearly demonstrate the impact the project will make on HIV prevention in the community.
- PEPFAR cannot fund regular salaries, religious instruction, research, or general operating expenses (including rent, utilities, air time, etc).
- Proposals must include a contribution by the community or organization to the project.
FUNDING AMOUNT: The maximum amount awarded for each project will be U.S. $20,000. An organization targeting more than one community may request above U.S. $20,000.
PROJECT DURATION: Projects must be completed by September 30, 2012 regardless of when the funding is received. Funding will be issued through Cooperative Agreements. More information will be provided upon notification of awards.
